Integrated
Circuits
Motorola design engineers have recognized
that the use of commercially available “off-the-
shelf” integrated circuits would not have
resulted in significant benefits to the FM
two-way radio user. Consequently, in
conjunction with Motorola’s Semiconductor
Products Division, they have designed unique
silicon monolithic integrated circuits, specially
for use in FM two-way radios.
With these proprietary circuits, Motorola has
significantly reduced size and weight on the
HT-220 Series “Handie-Talkie” FM radios
while increasing their reliability. Furthermore,
by using integrated circuits, Motorola design
engineers have made many capabilities possible
for the HT-220 Radio without increasing size
and weight. The three silicon monolithic
integrated circuits in the HT-220 Series radio
are three good reasons why Motorola means
leadership in the communications industry.
