5. Data Analysis: All data collected during the tests will C T D C
plotted against appropriate parameters to illustrate the effects of changing
various components of the automobile. Aerodynamics drag will be the prime
parameter of concern although aerodynamic lift and center of pressure
will exhibit considerable influence on certain body forms. Comparisons
of data with other similar n onfigurations and with other scale data, where
available, will be made to substantiate data accuracies. Theoretical
comparisons will also be made where possible. From these plots, conclusions,
recommendations, and opinions can be formed. Internal drag will be deter
mined from pressure readings in the engine compartment. Flow visualization
aides such as tufts, 2 escent oils, dyalite beads, powder and high speed
photography will be utilized to aid in formulating the complete aerodyna s H* • O
picture.
6. Reporting: As pointed out earlier in this proposal, the objective
of thes 4-> sts is to collect data which can be used by non-technicaDpersonnel
as guides when styling any particular configuration, Although much experi
mental technical information will be included in this report, it will be
organized and pr o sented in such a manner as to be easily interpreted by
laymen. When possible, technical data will be illustrated with artists
renditions to aide in easy interpretation. From the conclusions which will
be made during the data analysis, guidelines will be established and reflected
in the data presentations specific enough to be applied to particular situations
but general enough to cover a large range of variables. A copy of the report
rough draft will be submitted to CE for approval prior to its publication.
