2. Instrumentation and Electronics Support
a. Test Support - Grand National Cars
The Dodge Daytona was instrumented for Atlanta tests and data was
recorded and reduced in support of track tests. The prop shaft torque measuring
system functioned until the prop shaft failed mechanically and destroyed the unit.

The Plymough was instrumented in preparation for Talladega tests
including engine and suspension system measurements.
b. Test Support - Trans Am Cars
A secondary measurement system was prepared for Trans Am
division Barracuda tests using a borrowed 6 channel Brush recorder with a 110 V
inverter power supply plus transducer power supply and signal conditioning equipment
(system wt. 200 lbs).
The system was transported to AAR in California and installed for
tests. Due to engine problems with vehicle, no instrumentation test runs were per
formed during March. The system was left in the vehicle for operation when mech
anical problems are solved.
c. Communication System
The pit to driver communication system was installed in the Owens/
Baker Dodge and used during Rockingham and Atlanta races, No problems wer o
encountered with the system.
Efforts to procure 450 me band portables were stopped due to
funding limitations. Quotes have been received from GE on 2 watt units and
motorola on 4 watt units.
3. Mobile Control Center
The Control Center was located at Rockingham during pre race activities
and prepared for scoring the race.
An attempt was made to score the race using available Detroit engineering
personnel at the track. No computer personnel from Huntsville were on hand due to
a cost reduction program.
