Position ENGINEERING MANAGER, INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEERING SECTION

Name Jesse J. King________________________ Clearance SECRET _____

                   Degree(s) B ,S .E ,E . Professional Experience 14 Years

                  Education

Mr. King received a B.A. degree in Electrical Engineering (Communications option)
from Alabama Polytechnic Institute in 1954. He has also taken courses in theory and opera
                  tion of magnetic tape systems (C. E. C., 1959).

                  Experience

When Mr. King joined Chrysler in 1958, he was placed on direct assignment to the
MSFC Experimental Aerodynamic Facilities. In this position he has engaged in the develop
ment of techniques, and in the design and development of instrumentation equipment (and its
calibration and checkout) for the wind tunnel testing of models. His primary responsibility
was to insure the quality of measurements made during tests conducted in the facilities (wind
tunnels, high altitude, hot air). He solved engineering problems arising in the measuring
or control systems and initiated any work necessary to maintain or improve the quality of
these systems. Other responsibilities included: making changes and modifications required
for non-routine testing, designing special instrumentation, and scheduling necessary pre
ventive maintenance in order to retain equipment in a state of operational readiness.

Mr. King met with project engineers and representatives of the Aerodynamics Facili
ties Section for pre-test conference and provided assistance to project engineers for pre
test preparations. He also scheduled use of data reduction and plotting equipment for re
duction of data obtained from tests conducted in the facilities.

Since 1962, Mr. King has served as Unit Supervisor, Instrumentation Unit of the System
Static Test Branch. In this capacity he is responsible for hardwire type measurements
made during static tests of Saturn S-I and S-IB Stage. These responsibilities include: mea
suring program preparation; coordination of R&D measuring requests, acquisition of trans
ducers and equipment; hook-up, .checkout and calibration of the systems for measuring pres
sure, temperature, vibration, strain, flows, position, etc.; and scheduling activities and
coordinating with affected units. At the conclusion of the static tests, Mr. King is also
responsible for the analysis of test results and preparation of reports from the instrumen
                    tation standpoint.

Prior to 1958, during his 4 1/2 years with Convair (Fort Worth) as a Test Engineer,
Mr. King gained an intimate knowledge of wind tunnel testing techniques and instrumenta
tion. In his association there with the Instrumentation Section of the Engineering Test La
boratory, he instrumented wind tunnel models, worked on instrumentation problems in
volving a variety of transducers and electronic equipment, and assisted in the conduct of
wind tunnel tests, ground vibration tests, and sonic vibration tests.
