2. Instrumentation and Electronics Support
a. Test Support - Grand National Cars:
No tests were conducted on Grand National Cars during August.
The Lockheed recorder was returned to Lockheed N. J. for
recalibration and repairs.
b. Test Support - Drag Cars:
Two drag car tests were supported; one at Detroit and one at
Norwald, Ohio.
The following measurements were recorded:
Engine speed
Rear wheel speed
Front wheel speed
Acceleration
Fuel pump pressure
Automatic transmission line pressure
Engine oil temperature
3. Special Systems Development
a. Driver Seat Suspension:
The seat is prepared and awaiting oval track testing.
b. Vehicle Thermal Insulation:
The Plymouth test car has been insulated with foamed poly
urethane. A manually mixed polyurethane foam is being investi
gated in lieu of spray mix presently used.
c. Fire Extinguishing System:
Two Formula I Freon 113 manual systems were installed in the
Plymouth test car. One system releases freon in engine left side
header area and the other system splits flow between area ahead
of driver seat and inside rear passenger area of car.
