The torque sensor was installed by Nichols Engineering, but used signal conditioning
furnished by Huntsville. Also, since the torque meter had not been calibrated,
Huntsville was asked to calibrate the unit after tests are completed.
The pressure measurement is a 46 channel Scani-valve assembly installed by
Proving Ground engineers and recorded on the Huntsville recorder system. The scani-
valve was powered by four dry cell batteries; however, the voltage drop due to IR loss
had been causing problems with this battery system. A six volt regulated power supply
was furnished by Huntsville to replace the batteries. All other measuring systems are
Huntsville designed and developed.
On Saturday, 18 April, all instrumentation installation was completed and a slow
speed (120 mph or less) run was made. All instruments functioned properly except the
scani-valve.
On Sunday, 19 March, the high speed runs were cancelled due to rain and
rescheduled for Sunday, 26 April. In the interim, Central Engineering personnel will
attempt to repair the scani-valve. The writer returned to Huntsville. The tests have
been rescheduled at Chelsea, 26 April.
