Instrumentation Operation For Sox and Martin Drag Car, Wilmington, Delaware
                 and Dodge Daytona, Chelsea, Michigan.

The writer departed Huntsville Saturday morning, 11 April 1970, for Wilmington,
Delaware. The purpose of this part of this trip was to install and operate an instrumen
tation system in a Sox and Martin Group 7 Barracuda drag car. The car was to be tested
at the Rising Sun Drag Way, Rising Sun, Maryland. The writer began installation of
instrumentation in the car on Monday, 13 April. The following measuring transducers
                 were installed:

                         1. Engine RPM
                         2. Propellor Shaft RPM
                         3. Right Front Wheel Speed
                         4. Longitudinal Acceleration
                         5. Vertical Acceleration
                         6. Under Hood Air Pressure

Since this type of instrumentation had been installed on previous drag cars, no problems
were encountered. All measuring systems worked properly. Some difficulty was
                 experienced with the propellor shaft RPM indicator due to misalignment at installation;
                 However, this was corrected.

Four runs were made Monday with full instrumentation. Hard copies of the data
were reproduced using a Brush two channel recorder to strip the data from the Lockheed
magnetic tape recorder used in the vehicle. This data was compared to similar data from
a previous drag car test at Gainesville. Both Mr. Cottington and Mr. Hoover seemed
satisfied with the resulting data. Mr. Cottington and Mr. Hoover asked the writer about
the possibility of additional testing at Rockingham, S. C. , during the week beginning
19 April. Although this could not be arranged due to conflicts with Grand National vehicle
testing additional drag car test work in the future seems promising.

Drag tests were concluded 16 April and the writer departed for Nichols Engineering,
                 Griffith, Indiana.

The writer arrived at Nichols Engineering 17 April and began installation of instru
ments on engineering test car 093. This car was transported to Chrysler's Chelsea Proving
Grounds on 18 April and instrumentation installation was continued there. The following
                 measuring systems were installed:
