Tuesday night it was decided to make parallel measurements of engine speed on
the Brush pen recorder and a tape recorder along with the acoustic measurements on
another channel of the tape recorder. The Lockheed representative allowed us to use his
recorder for convenience since he had planned to stay over Wednesday.
Wednesday morning the Lockheed recorder was re-installed with tape rotating in
yaw direction (reels horizontal) and the microphone was installed on a roll bar near the

drivers helmet. The engine speed measurement was paralleled on a separated tape
channel with the input to the Brush pen recorder.
Late Wednesday morning several runs were made and data recorded. The engine
speed was played back after the rim onto the brush and duplicated the original pen record
ing.
The data was returned to Huntsville for further analysis and evaluation of individual
recorder performance.
