Performance Report: Aerodynamic Investigation of 3/8 Scale Automobiles in the
Wind Tunnel; Report Period: February 15 - March 5, 1969

All model construction has been completed with the exception of calibration of
the rear deck airfoils (requires the location and drilling of holes in the support brackets).
The models have been shipped from Highland Park to Wichita State University where
tests are currently scheduled to begin on March 7, 1969.

Preliminary estimates have been prepared for the aerodynamic loads on the
modified Clark "Y" airfoil to use as a basis for comparison with the experimental
data. No consideration of the airfoil support brackets or of the effects of the proximity
of the airfoil to the rear deck (ground effect) have been included in the aerodynamic
estimates. The aerodynamic loads on the airfoil support brackets should be of benefit
as a means of reducing the yawing moments in a turn. This yawing moment due to yaw
angle is a cause of concern for race car drivers and, therefore, a vertical stabilizer
has been designed and constructed and will be tested on the 3/8 scale "F" series Charger
to determine if an appreciable torque reduction can be obtained.
