Activity Report For Huntsville Circuit Racing Test Operations - November 1969
The Chrysler Huntsville Circuit Racing Test Operations completed the second month of
operation. The organization is divided into three major activities:
L Test Vehicle Operation - This includes all test vehicle build up and
modifications (mechanical) as well as track testing 0
n. Instrumentation Support - All instrumentation and associated support
equipment maintenance and operation including development of special
subsystems such as radios, measuring transducers, power supplies,
and signal conditioning equipment. Also includes data reduction and
handling during track testing.
III. Mobile Control Center - This includes maintenance and operation of
the Dodge Motor Home used as a pre-race center of activities and a
computerized scoring system. The center also doubles as a track test
center of activities when available for housing support equipment, work
area, meeting place and records storage.
A. Accomplishments During November 1969 -
During November a large percent of time was expended on moving into and setting
up equipment and facilities in the building at 109 Pratt Avenue in Huntsville.
An electronics work area was built inside the building and parts storage area with
cabinets and shelves completed. Some of the heavy equipment was placed and a large shop
air compressor was installed. Burgular bars were installed, window opaqued and security
locks installed. Secondary secure areas were provided by the enclosed parts room and by
the electronics shop.
The following describes effort expended in each major activity associated with
normal operations:
I. Test Vehicle Operations
The former red car 046 (1968 Charger 500) was disassembled down to basic
body and frame, sandblasted, magnaglowed, welded where required, primed and modifi
cations begun to update it to 1970 Charger configuration for Riverside tests. A stop order
was received when a decision was made to run the Blue Daytona car at Riverside which
