IV. Special Systems Development
a. Driver Seat Suspension System
A Bostrom truck seat is being modified with interchangeable flat
torsion springs of varying rates and a hydraulic shock absorber to reduce driver
vibration frequency to approximately 1 cps and thereby reduce fatigue and increase
performance during long races.
b. Vehicle Thermal Isolation
A lightweight sprayed foamed-in-place polyurethane insulation is
being investigated for thermal protection for vehicle interiors to reduce heat inputs to
driver and improve fatigue resistance.
B. Plans For Next Month - January 1970 -
I. Test Vehicle Operations
The Charger Daytona will be prepared and tested at Talladega 5-10
January 1970 with two experimental engine configurations with several combinations
of exhaust systems and carburation.
The test car will then be rebuilt for the next test series.
Time permitting rebuild of second (backup) test car 046 will begin to
update it to Daytona sheet metal.
II. Instrumentation and Electronics Support
a. Test Support
The Daytona test car will be instrumented for oval track tests at
Talladega. Additional measurements for carburetor inlet air temperature and engine
torque will be made.
Preparations will begin to instrument a dra car early in February.
