ABSTRACT
Wind tunnel tests were conducted on a 3/8-scale model of a basic 1968
Plymouth 2-door hardtop sedan (ER-23) modified to simulate a NASCAR Grand
National race vehicle. Modifications consisted of: 1) an 18" front end extension
of aerodynamic design; 2) an undernose spoiler; 3) a semi-fastback backlight.
By the addition of these features aerodynamic drag was reduced 28% from the
1968 race circuit car. Additionally, car set up can be optimized to eliminate
aerodynamic lift at 190 mph.
