Attention: Mr. J. Serocki
Dear Mr. Serocki:
This letter is being sent to you with reference
to your phone conversation with R. V. Schmitt on December 2,
1969. The subject was seat mounts for use in a racing auto
mobile.
You stated that the static vertical load of
driver plus seat is 200 pounds and dynamic load is an addi
tional 2G, also vertical. You further stated that the
driver is experiencing a vertical disturbing force at a
frequency of 2.5 to 3.5 cps which you wish to isolate.
A possible solution to the problem would be
through the use of Lord bonded sandwich mounting J-9677-12.
A drawing of this part is enclosed. Four (4) pieces of this
part are to be used per installation. The part is to be
oriented such that the vertical load shears the mounting.
You will also find that due to mounting flexibility in other
directions, it will be necessary to provide restraint in
these directions to limit motion. You may also find that
vertical motion under the dynamic condition is also high and
may require a snubbing device to limit this motion.
The static shear spring rate of J-9677-12 is
12 pounds per inch. Initial vertical static deflection
under the 200 pounds will be about 4 inches. Under the
dynamic conditions of the additional 2G, deflection will be
approximately 8-1/2 inches from the static position. The
vertical static natural frequency will be about 1.6 cps.
