ress on to Automotive Wind Tunnel
The 3/'8-scale model of the Charger was completed on July 17, 1968 and
delivered to Department 3860 for instrumentation. We are now in the process
of installing pressure orifices and building spoiler to mate to the model. The
model will have to be returned to the paint shop for repainting since the initial
job is completely unsatisfactory. The model will be shipped air freight on
July 2 6, 1968 to be available at Wichita University on July 29, 1968, for testing.
The Coronet and Plymouth "Road-Runner" models are still in manufacture and
on a revised schedule due to some delays. The Coronet model will arrive at
the tunnel one week after testing begins and the Plymouth will arrive three
weeks after start of testing. These dates are satisfactory and will not delay
tunnel testing.
Pressure drop data across the race car radiator, requested from proving
grounds, has not been received to date due to the unavailability of a race car
for testing purposes. However, a car (Charger) will be available the week of
July 22, 1968 and the data will be collected at that time. A Plymouth racer
is not available so that the Dodge data will have to suffice for all models.
(Should be sufficient although there is some difference in intake configuration).
Lockheed Georgia called on July 10, 1968 to obtain additional information
regarding tests scheduled for their facility beginning October 7, 1968. They
related that their installation proposal with associated cost estimate will be
forwarded by July 25, 1968. As of this writing. Bob Marcell has tentatively
assumed responsibility for the full scale test effort.
