DRAG RACING DEVELOPMENT 1KS r SCHEDULE

The next major drag development test is scheduled for May 19, 20, 21 and
22 at Cecil County Dragway, Cecil County, Maryland. This test will
evaluate 3 speed vs 4 speed clutchflite transmissions optimizing fly
wheel inertia in each case. Five flywheels will be available ranging
from 10# to 64#. The Huntsville equipment will he on hand to measure:
front wheel speed, engine speed, prop shaft speed, and acceleration (G
loading). The Detroit based pro-stock test car will be used for this
       evaluation.
Detroit Pro-Stock '70 Challenger Test Car - This car is equipped with a
13:1 compression ratio 426 cu.in. hemi engine utilizing an A-990 intake
system, 71R roller camshaft, aluminum A-990 cylinder heads, and a
        2-1/8" x 24" - 3-1/2" x 6" header system. The car will be tested at
       3000# with a 4.88:1 Dana 60 axle and 12.00 x 15 Firestone #2 tires.
It is hoped that the 4 speed clutchflite will equal or exceed the A-833
present 4 speed manual transmission in performance? The clutchflite
will be an easier car for the drivers to race and if it is successful
it will increase our number of competitive pro-stock cars. If the clutch
flite proves to be durable, it should also gteatly reduce our parts
breakage problems with 4 speed manuals due to missed shifts. Lead time
will be lengthy for the 4 speed clutchflite so it is important to get
this evaluation completed as soon as possible.
The following personnel from Engineering will be required for this test:
                    A. D. Adam - Dept. 7590
                 T. T. Coddlngton - Dept. 7590
